Shawn and I have been discussing the possibility for a long time now. And up until this point we couldn't really foresee it. But as we've watched Caleb grow up with Wrigley and how well he has done with a baby, we have decided this is as good as time as ever.
They say that you should get beagles in pairs because they are pack dogs. But when you take on the task of getting a puppy, one is definitely enough! With Caleb, I feel...we both feel, that Wrigley has been left behind. We know we haven't been very good pet owners and we think that if he had someone else to play with, everyone would be better off.
So after doing A LOT of research, we have decided to adopt a rescue beagle. This way we don't have the daunting task of training a puppy again and hopefully, with them being the same age, they'll get along great. We've talked to the foster parents of the beagle we're adopting and they suggested that we take on a female dog so that there won't be any "male dominance" behavior. They have three beagles in their home and say that there will be some getting used to each other, but nothing to stress about. They are located in Beaulaville, NC, which is a little less than an hours drive for us this weekend. We've been out to visit them once and our new pup is super cute and fun!
Wish us luck as we add one more person to our growing family!!
Here's a few pictures of Lily, the owners have sent to us.

my sweet boy!

I love that Caleb bought me flowers....and M&M's....and Jolly Rancher Jelly Beans while we were shopping at Walmart yesterday! He's such a sweet boy.
My other sweet boy said, "You finally bought yourself some flowers!" Oh, how I love him!

(And the photo shoot is over because he's spied the jelly beans!)

More weekend fun

We had a great weekend just spending time together. Although I know it's close to the time Shawn will be leaving...until I said, "Not next weekend, because it's Easter, but the following weekend because that's our last weekend together....", did I really realize it. It always seems to creep up on us, but in the end, I think we both are just ready to get it going so it can be over with. Caleb and I have been sick since last week and I think Shawn's fighting it a little bit, but we got a night together anyway!! We dropped Caleb off at Playdate, then went to an old car show we just happened upon. Then to our usual, Lowe's and Target, just because. And then we went to Musashi Japanese Steakhouse. This was the perfect restaurant for us....well because, I had no voice. So, at least we were entertained by the chef and Shawn didn't have to keep saying, "what did you say?"

Our grass has been getting out of hand in one spot in our backyard and I couldn't take it anymore. I told Shawn we had to cut it! I think that when it's as tall as your dog, you've got a problem.
Yesterday we went to church and then ate and played at a park afterwards. Although it was a bit cloudy and windy, it was still a good day to stay outside as much as possible. Caleb didn't take his usual nap and wasn't happy about much until.........
I gave him a ring pop. It was like the best thing he's ever had. And when it fell off the stick and I threw it away, the crying started again.
Helping dad is always fun. But you can only do so much with a ring pop on your finger.

And lastly, I seem to get bored with the usual breakfast items we have around the house. I mean, I seem to make the same few things way too often. Caleb doesn't seem to complain, but I think he'd eat anything (most of the time). So, today I mixed things up and put some blueberry juice in our pancakes. I know, real inventive, right?! But, they were really good. This is Caleb's third one!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

The newest member of our family has arrived early this morning. Delaney Catherine was born at 1:39am weighing 9lbs (woah!!) and 20 in. long. My cousin David was one of my best friends growing up and I hate that I live so far away from him. And his wife, Ashley, is wonderful! We are so happy for them and can't wait to see pictures. Once they get home and start posting pictures, you can see them here.

Love you guys!!
(Funny that my aunt just e-mailed us this old picture of the cousins - minus my brother.

Sick baby and sick mom

Caleb's been sick for about 5 days...and wouldn't you know it, I got sick a couple of days ago too. It hit me like a ton of bricks. One minute I was fine, the next my throat hurt, then I was freezing and achy all over. And so this is what it's looked like around our house for the past two days (minus the crying and screaming when you look at Caleb the wrong way or tell him no:o) I'm trying to get him to watch Sesame Street or Sprout TV, but he's not that into tv yet, so me laying on the couch all day, like I want to do, hasn't really worked out.

Yeah, he's chewing on a leather string. That's how we roll around the Capps house when mom's sick. You get to do pretty much whatever you want.

This was the last weekend of Shawn's vacation and the weather couldn't have been better! We enjoyed alot of time outside, grilled out, hiked (they hiked, I went to a baby shower) and went to our friend, Sheppard's birthday party.

Packing up gear, means only one thing......it's almost time to head out:o(
But this time it's more fun because Caleb's such a good helper (note this pj shirt)!

He just spotted a C-130 out the window.....like father, like son.

Camping

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Nothing says FUN like a little indoor camping!

Yeah for Daddy Doll - or as Shawn likes to call it "Action Figure"!

So, when I said we were a little consumed with the ancestry.com thing.....that was explaining it lightly:o) We are going to dedicate one whole wall in our house just to family photos. We have only gotten them from Shawn's side of the family and have a ton. We started with 10 picture frames today and so far we are excited about it. We keep finding more and more information on our families and think this is something, not only our children will enjoy one day, but that our families now, will enjoy too.

Grannies and Caleb

Our parents came to visit us this past weekend before Shawn heads out again. We saw a concert by Phil Keaggy and heard J.P. Moreland speak at our church. We became engrossed in where we came from and joined Ancestry.com. That actually entertained us for most of the weekend and was a lot of fun! We're definitely not through with it yet. It rained most of the time, but we were able to get out for a walk the last day they were here.
This is not a dress, but one of my turtle neck shirts so it will cover his hands and keep his neck warm. Those are Shawn's socks:o)
Shawn's mom got stuck with the dog.

Caleb's surgery

at Thursday, March 11, 2010

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Caleb has his surgery this morning to have tubes put in his ears. It literally took like 5 minutes and he was finished. Once we got in the car to come home, he was back to his normal self and is now sleeping in dad's arms.

Plumber

Today I realized this kid has no summer clothes that fit him. We do have a few t-shirts, but no shorts. I guess we're going to have to go shopping!!! For some reason he has seemed to grow up in the past few days...at least to us. He just looks older or something.

And some other exciting news....Caleb has started seeking out career professions. We couldn't be prouder of him at such a young age!!
