David Joseph Newsom
1976 ~ 2010

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
Ron Tranmer

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

We didn't do much the last couple of days. We bought dad a few things and I got Caleb these squirt guns, thinking they'd be so much fun. They were junk! They hardly squirt any water and of course the trigger's too stiff for Caleb to do it. Oh, well. It was fun for a few minutes.

The only way he could pull the trigger was with his thumb, which meant it was facing him. He just kept squirting himself like he didn't care.

One more hand would be nice!
Here's a great video of Caleb dancing.
He was in rare form this afternoon after a 40 minute nap.

Air Show!

Caleb's first airshow!
Can you believe this kid doesn't own a USMC shirt? Well, that was our first stop. We bought a shirt from the exchange and then headed over to the deployed spouses hangar. They had different stations set up for them to do things and at the end they got aviator wings and free food. And after all that free stuff, they even gave us reserved seating, with chairs and a canopy all inside a fence...perfect for someone who won't sit still.

First stop was to get a dog tattoo.

Then he threw an airplane thru all all the holes.
(Of course they got free toys at each station too!)

Then he "tried" to throw a parachuter into a ring.

Then he got to fish for ducks. Not sure what that has to do with aviation, but it was still fun.

Then it was off to the static displays. Up first, Caleb's favorite thing right now, trucks!

Then we sat inside the C-130.

And finally a picture in front of dad's airplane.
The only thing I hate about the night airshow is that the Blue Angels don't perform - and that's really the only reason I go to the air shows!
As you can see in this picture, there are planes with smoke flying by and all he wants to do is get down to play with all the free toys he just earned.
We had a great time and Caleb was beyond great! He honestly didn't whine or cry once, which made me a happy camper. We only wish dad could have been with us to maybe tell him a thing or two about the planes he saw:o)

As a lot of you may know, Bagram Air Base, where Shawn is stationed, was attacked yesterday. We received a statement from the Commanding Officer today telling us what happened. Two of our Marines were injured by enemy grenades, have undergone surgery and are recovering on their way back to the states. Everyone else in our squadron is fine and I have talked to Shawn a couple of times since then. Please, please keep Shawn and all of our troops in your prayers. We are fighting an enemy who is not afraid to attack us and are willing to die doing it. I am thankful for a soverign God we can trust with the most important things in our lives. Because that is all we can do from here....trust in Him!
On a much lighter note, I had a doctors appointment today. It was just the inital family history and blood test appointment, so I didn't meet with the doctor. My due date is January 16th and hopefully when I see him on June 1st, I will get my first ultrasound picture. We came home and took a nap and then took a walk this afternoon. We have much more exciting plans tomorrow as we go to Caleb's first air show!

Caleb was a sweaty mess when he got up from his nap. His hair was soaking wet and once he ran around a bit, it ended up looking like I curled it:o)

He is enjoying his apple.

"Show me your teeth!" This is what he does when I tell him that.

This video is in e-mail format so I could send it to Shawn so the quality might not be that good, but it is so cute. I just had to post it!

Sesame Street

at Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Today we went to see Sesame Street put on by the USO...which means that it was free for all military. I was kinda thinking we would sit in the back in case we had to sneak out, but we sat in the middle with some of our friends. I wasn't really sure if he would like it or stay interested in it long enough. Of course, they gave him this great little Elmo toy, or "Mo-mo" as he calls him. That entertained him for just the right amount of time. Then it was time for the show to begin. All I want to know is, where was Big Bird? He was way more into it than I exected. Laughing and dancing. It was so cute. The best part is that it only lasted 30 minutes!! I probably would have been upset had I paid for it, but since it was free, 30 minutes was absolutely perfect!

There wasn't much lighting in the auditorium, so this video is really dark.

It's rainy, I had a dentist appointment and Wrigley decided he wanted to dig a hole in the mud - he hasn't done this in months. So much for excitement today.

This is his sucking-in-air-like-I'm-about-to-start-crying face.

He obviously thinks Wrigley needs more discipline.

I know this is blurry, but this is what I found Caleb trying to do last night and I couldn't get my camera ready fast enough. Wrigley's in trouble!

18 Months Old

Some days it seems like it's been longer. But, then other days it seems like it was just yesterday. It's hard to believe our little boy is 18 months old today! We couldn't imagine our lives with out him. He is such a joy to our hearts!

Cookies for Dad

at Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Today we made dad some chocolate chip cookies. Of course, we had to try them out to make sure they were good enough to send.

After Caleb got in trouble for throwing flour on the floor (after I told him not to), I walked into the living room to find this cute little flour handprint on the back of our couch.
Now comes the taste testing.....
More, please!
And this is his mad face when I told him we have to wait until after dinner.

Lucky for us, there were a few that wouldn't fit into his package:o)

Blue Mouth

at Monday, May 10, 2010

Monday, May 10, 2010

It was beautiful today, so we played outside as much as we could. I gave Caleb a blue ring pop. That was a bit messier than I remembered from last time, so I just turned on the water....which is what he wanted anyway. But, when it's only 70 and a bit overcast, it was a little chilly.

I decided that the yard needed watering so I did that too. I took down the hanging baskets on my front porch and guess what I found. We have a bird feeder out front and I keep seeing the same few birds fly in and out to eat and even a couple perching in the plants. I told Shawn that I thought they were making a nest and they were!!! How cute is this little nest and all the eggs?! I just hope I didn't water them too much and make the nest soggy so that it falls apart....(more so because I don't want to have to clean dead baby birds from my porch!)

After all that outdoor fun, he was ready for bed a little early:o)

Mother's Day

at Sunday, May 09, 2010

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Isn't everyday Mother's Day when you spend it with your children? When they run to you to give you hugs and kisses? Or to cry and whine because they aren't getting their way? In all the fun times and teachable times. Joyful time and unjoyful times:o) I love to see the joy on Caleb's face when he feeds me Goldfish. Or when he is loving on, I mean tormenting, Wrigley and he tries so hard to get me to laugh with him. I am just beginning to learn what it is to be a parent, but I was a mother the first time I saw the plus sign on that stick. That can never be taken away. Some days are hard and I just want to run into my room to get away from it all. But all it takes is one small smile, a laugh, a mama and you forget why you were running away. Thank you to my mom for loving me like you have all these years! I hope I can pass down that same love to Caleb and his brothers and sisters in the years to come. I hope that I can be patient and encouraging. A mom and a dad (when needed). A friend when he is older.
Today, I'll settle for being mama.
Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there!

Myrtle Beach

Friday, May 7, 2010

We had a great time in Myrtle Beach with my parents and Aunt Debbie and Uncle Terry! It's nice to be home though. The weather was pretty much perfect and by the end of the week Caleb was loving the water. Hopefully I'll have a fish on my hands by the end of the summer.

He so badly wanted to get close the the duck, but was still a little scared of it!
He's looking a little tired here!
