The Grannies' Visit

Granny and Papaw came to visit us this past week and just left this morning.  We are so glad they were able to come out again!  I would like to say it was a great week, but when you throw in a 2 year old who wants to throw nonstop tantrums, scream and cry for three (or more) hours each night, a stomach bug (that Caleb got) that lasted most of the week and rainy weather, well....I'll just say again, we are so glad they came to visit us!
We did a little hiking.  Caleb is always the leader and is still hiking like a pro.
Amelia, however, was not into it this day,  screamed bloody murder for about 1/4 of mile, so Shawn took her back to the car, so we let our sweet angel get some rest.

Do you see the coyote on the left side of the trail in the picture below?  We think he was trying to make sure Amelia wasn't an animal in distress that he could come and eat.
Shawn met us on our way back and Amelia was asleep on his shoulder.
 Cap Sante overlooking Anacortes.

 Showing off his muscles.
 Checking out the huge ship.
After our little hike and some lunch, we headed to Camping World to get some of the essential items we needed for our camper.  Then we came back and started setting everything up for our driveway campout.  Caleb was supervising, of course.

Grandma bought the kids yard darts, so they played a little of that.
 Caleb pouting...I'm not sure why.
Shawn making sure he knows how to hook everything up.
We grilled out some burgers and ate our dinner inside.
Getting warm by the fire.  Everyone except Amelia and I spent the night in the camper.  We thought Granny might have poisoned Caleb in the middle of the night by giving him a drink of water out of the faucet (Papaw thought it might still have antifreeze in it), but one quick call to Camping World, eased our fears:o)
 Amelia got a new bike.
On Monday, we headed to Orcas Island.  We had never been there before and have heard good things about it.  I think we'll definitely go out there again when the weather is nicer.  There's a very cool hike to Mount Constitution.
We happened upon this little church with a labyrinth in the yard.

Caleb lead them through the maze.

On Tuesday, we checked out a campground at the south end of the island, but everything was full for this coming weekend.  We got us a great spot at Deception Pass, though, and are excited to take the camper out for the first time.
Thanks for coming to spend time with us, Granny and Papaw!!  We hope to see you again soon!

Last Day of School

Today was Caleb and Amelia's last day of school.
I They are already looking forward to next school year!

In Caleb's class they performed a couple of the songs they've learned over the year in chapel.  Caleb wouldn't even look at us and didn't sing one note of one song:o)

They also received an award.

Which he didn't even want to hold up either.  That kid!
In case you needed a little comparison, here's their first day of school pictures.

Interior Photos

Here are some interior photos of the camper.  Shawn said he was surprised he didn't come home to matching sheet sets.  We're camping, I said, who needs cute stuff. :o)
The first thing Caleb said this morning when he came downstairs was something to the effect, we need to get in that camper now and camp for a week and go hiking and show Granny and Papaw.  I think they're pretty excited about it too.  Camping was a huge part of my childhood and I have such great memories camping (for what felt like almost every weekend of my childhood, but I'm sure it actually wasn't) and I love that my family still goes camping on a regular basis.  I hope this becomes one of the fondest memories our kids have when looking back on their childhoods too.
So, thanks mom and dad, for taking us camping and getting us outdoors!!

I thought this sign was pretty funny!
Too bad every campground in the state of Washington is full this weekend or we would be breaking it in tomorrow.  We'll just have to wait until next weekend, I guess!

Our New Toy

at Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Well, we finally broke down and bought a camper!
I've been wanting one for, like, forever and we just happen to find the right size one for our family, for the right price and Shawn brought it home for us today.  We can't wait to try it out, hopefully very soon!!

(More pics to come!  And yes, he pulled over at Deception Pass to get these photos today:o)

Birthday Party Weekend

We had two birthday parties to go to this weekend.  On Saturday we went to our good friend, Emma's 4th birthday party.  They played musical chairs...
A game where we tied balloons to their ankles and they had to run around and try to pop everyone else's (I'm going to have to remember that one)!
And they tried racing with balloons between their legs.
 It was a great party!
On Sunday we went to party for a friend from Caleb's class.  It was a construction theme and they're yard was perfect for it.  They handed out buckets and shovels and they got to play in the dirt/rock pile.
After getting back home Amelia decided pants were optional.

Caleb made them a house out of the patio chairs:o)
We can't wait for Granny and Papaw to get here on Wednesday!!  Now it's off to clean the house.
