The End of The Grannies Trip

As soon as I got home on Thursday, we hopped in the car and headed to Malibu for dinner.  Just as we passed Mugu Rock, we saw something big and dark jump out of the water just near the shore.  I pulled the car over just about as fast as I could and yelled at everyone to get out of the car!  They were whales!

We think there were at least three of them and based off of what I found on the internet (local sightings for that day), we think they were gray whales.  So cool!
We took them to our usual spot at Pepperdine.
Then we headed back to the Paradise Cove Cafe.
I looked this restaurant up and made sure there was kid food (lots of Malibu restaurants aren't super kid friendly).  What I didn't do, was look to see how much everything cost.  Lesson learned.  I will be doing that from now on.  We chalked it up to this would probably be our one and only time eating here, so why not.
It was awesome that it was right on the beach.  The kids could play in the sand, while the adults relaxed in Adirondack chairs.  Even the outdoor seating was set in sand.

After dinner, all of the beach goers had left and it was pretty secluded.

Friday morning, Shawn and I both didn't have to work, so we headed to Santa Barbara.

We walked the pier and found a playful sea lion stirring up the water.

After walking the pier and getting candy from the candy shop, we got lunch just across the street from the pier and then headed over to the historic carousel.
(You can read all about it below).

We then played at a playground for a bit and tried to look for some ice cream.  In doing so, we found out that the downtown area has a lot of shops and stores and Shawn and I will have to go back alone to enjoy it :o).
Saturday morning we headed to the Waypoint Cafe for breakfast and somehow we lucked out and there was a WWII era airplane display.

After we ate, we headed out on the tarmac to take a closer look.

We headed home after that and mom and dad got all packed up to head home.  Their shuttle (we booked them a passenger bus - which, by the way, picks you up at our house - but they got picked up in a brand new black Lincoln (or something similar.  Free upgrade!) picked them just after dinner for a red eye flight home.
We had a really great time and we are so thankful (to Delta!) they were able to extend their stay for the kids' spring break!
As I always say after guests leave.......who's next?!

Grannies Visit - Easter Weekend

After driving to and from LA and walking all around the zoo the day before, we wanted to stay local and relax.  The kids have been asking for a beach day, so we headed to the Channel Islands harbor to hang out at "mother's beach"(aka little to no waves).
The got to try out their wetsuits that they got for Christmas too.

Just over the rock break, where the real waves are, there just happened to be a surf contest going on.

After spending a few hours at the beach, we came home to relax and color our eggs.
Look at how tired Caleb is from boogie boarding for about 3 hours!

Easter morning brought lots of goodies.

We headed to church and then went back home to enjoy the beautiful weather.

We ended out our day with a campfire and smore's.
Monday we headed to the Ronald Reagan National Library.

Caleb, Amelia and Mamaw trying to read a speech.
Standing in Ronald Reagan's Oval Office.
 Air Force One.
A piece of the World Trade Center.
 Riding a horse.

Standing next to a piece of the Berlin Wall.
