False Alarm

So......
Remember when I said we'd be moving to the camper today?
And that Shawn was already staying there last night to get everything ready for us?
Well, fast forward to 4:04am.
Shawn's sleeping soundly in the camper.  The kids, Wrigley, and I are all sleeping soundly at the house.  Until, at 4:04am, I hear a car alarm going off and it sounds pretty close.
Now, I read a long time ago, that if you're home alone you should keep your keys next to your bed.  That way if you think someone is breaking into your house, you can hit the panic button on the key fob and hopefully scare the intruder.  I always do this when Shawn is away.
4:04am.  Car alarm going off.
I walk out into the living room, only to see my car lights blinking from the driveway.  I peek through the blinds to see if I see anything.  I don't see anyone, but my interior lights are on.
Ok, do I call 911?  Do I just call the police?
I call Shawn first.
I let the car alarm go awhile longer to scare away the burglar and turn on the living room lights to show that someone's home.
Shawn's asleep and it takes him a bit to realize what's going on.  I finally shut off the car alarm and try to lock my car.  It won't lock - at least it won't do its car-horn-locking-sound.  The light inside is still on too.  Shawn finally comes around and says to call the police and that he's on his way - a 30 minute drive.
I call the local police and its a recording. I really didn't feel like listening to it.  I mean, there could be someone lurking outside!  So, I call 911.  I have to grab a piece of mail to get the address.
"Ok ma'am, we'll send someone out."
In the meantime, the car still won't make its "I'm locked" sound, but the car lights go out.
Finally the police come - 30 minutes later.  Good thing I wasn't trying to fight off an intruder.
The car doors are locked.  They look at me like I'm nuts and tell me that maybe I have an electrical problem.  Nevermind the fact that I locked it, twice - with the "I'm locked" sound - before I went to bed.  Then one of the policemen asked me if that was a Subaru?  I said yes and he said, "It might have been cheaper to have someone break into it, than to have an electrical problem".
I say thank you and apologize for the false alarm and then Shawn pulls into the driveway.
Their assessment took 5 minutes.
5:10am - Back to bed.
6:30am - Alarm goes off.
We have no food for breakfast (I've bern cleaning everything out).
Hurry, get ready, get in the car.
7:15am - Dunkin  Donuts here we come.
Starting next week, we'll have to leave base at 7am, just to get to school on time.
I'm really tired!

Camper Living

Tomorrow's the day.
Tomorrow we begin living in the camper.
Shawn got it all set up for us this afternoon, then came back to the house to get the bulk of our things to take back.  He decided to just stay there tonight, since he's already at work.
Tomorrow, I'll clean the house so it doesn't look like 4 people and a dog have been here, then we'll head to the camper after I pick Caleb up from school.  Shawn flies to Texas tomorrow afternoon, which leaves us all alone with the camper for the weekend.
It's gonna take a little while to adjust to living in a tiny camper.  It's going to be tough, no doubt.  But, we must do it and we're gonna try to be as excited as the kids are!
Tiny house living, here we come!

Real Beds

Thursday, April 7, 2016

Well.....
It's been a busy, stressful week.
I took the kids to Raleigh one day while Shawn stayed with the packers and movers.
We are in our friends' house, which we are so thankful for!
Caleb is officially a car rider in the morning and afternoon.
I have decided that those who choose to take and pick their kids up everyday, are crazy.
Who would want to do this?!
I say, put them on the bus.
Because I am taking Caleb to school now, I felt it was just too much to drive back to the house to only take Amelia back out to her school just 45 min - 1 hour later.
So, she is now being taken to early drop off (for a small fee, of course).
They seem to have adjusted well, so far.
We are in a single Marine's house, with nice, orderly things.
No toys.  Nothing to play on in the yard.  No real beds.
Which brings me to my story for the night.

Shawn's at Mess Night (mandatory fun) tonight.
I put the kids down and about 10 minutes later, Amelia comes out to say she can't sleep.
I told her to go back and try and little harder and that dad would come and kiss her goodnight once he got home.
About 10 minutes after that, she begins to cry out for me, like she's hurt or something bad has happened.
Now, they are both on their camper bed mattresses in the office.
She is crying really hard and says she just can't sleep in this house because it's too scary.
(We've been here for a week:-).
I ask her why she's scared and she says because of the movie we just watched.
I said, "What movie".  (We didn't have the tv on the entire night - huge feat for us!).
She says, "The one we watched a couple of nights ago".
To which, Caleb rolls over and says, "Zootopia?"
She's says yes through her tears.
"It had that really scary part in the middle and that's all I can think of."
Then, she says, throwing her arms down by her side,
"I mean, we don't even have real beds at this house!"
I try not too laugh and tell her they're sleeping on mattresses.
She says, "Yah, but our other beds had legs and these are just on the floor."
(Continued sobs)
Then she goes back to this house is scary.
And I realize it's because the tv is off,  it's silent in the house and these kids are used to noise in the background.
So, I laid with her for a bit and wouldn't you know, it only took about 10 minutes until she was out.
And I was almost out too.

Only 2 more weeks until we move into our "tiny house", then there'll be a whole new set of things to cry about.

We always have good stories!
