I grew up watching MASH....or at least listening to it.  I remember my mom and dad always watching it.  I've been trying to get out to this hike for a while now.  There are a couple of different ways to get out to the MASH filming location and we're not sure if we took the long one or the short one.  I've had friends who hiked this in the spring, after we got our 16 inches of rain, and there was lots of water in the creeks and river.  Not that day.  It was dry as a bone.  It was hot too.  The kids were troopers though, as always, and it ended up being a pretty cool hike.

That rock bed is supposed to be a river.

We took a break anytime we found shade!
This is how they were feeling at this point.....and we weren't even halfway there yet!
We made it to a little lake, which was a welcome surprise.  It was fully shaded, so we took a nice little snack break here.
We even saw huge crawfish on the bank.

 We finally made it!
It was actually a little let down.  There were only a couple of show memorabilia there, but it was cool to think we were walking around where the show was filmed.
I hope you can zoom in on all of these photos and read about the site.

We took another little snack break here before we headed back.

Just above us was where they landed the helicopter.  This is looking down from the LZ.

Finally making our way back down.

We stopped at the (nasty) little pond before getting to the car to cool their feet off.

Picture Day!

Yesterday was picture day.
It seems that every time I take a new picture of them, they begin to look older and older.

Last year's picture day!
They look like babies!

Monterey, CA Visit

Saturday, September 9, 2017

We are SO excited our friends, The Plot's, live only 5 hours away!  We have heard great things about Monterey and have been wanting to get up there.  The weather is typically cool and overcast, which is what we wanted.  Although, the CA coast was getting record heat and it was in the mid 90's the entire weekend.
Saturday morning we set out for the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
(And because I'm glad that I'm even getting pictures on here, I'm just going to give you their website, www.montereybayaquarium.org, and you can go read all about it when you get a chance!)
It was awesome and thanks to friends with annual passes, we were able to get in for free!!
The kids were troopers that day.  We walked a little over 5 miles!

We went see the Deep Sea feeding show, which was so cool!
Here they are beginning to drop in food for the school of sardines.
 Making their way up...
 ...into a tornado!

In case you were wondering, all of that white, is bird poop.
Jellyfish!  They were everywhere in the water.

Getting ready for the salt water dump!!
 Here it comes!
(I love Sophie's face!)

Caleb and Amelia always love the touch pools.

After the aquarium, we walked down Cannery Row (which was also really cool and I'd love to go back to al of the shops without kids :o).  We got ice cream to cool off and then we walked some more to put our feet in the water.

The kids had a blast in this tide pool.

There was coral everywhere on the beach.
There were a ton of crabs!

The next morning we headed to breakfast and then to Fisherman's Wharf.

The whole time we were on the pier we could hear the seal lions.  We began to make our way around the harbor to get a closer look.
There were so many kayakers and scuba divers out there that morning.  After seeing how big the sea lions were, I don't know if I'd want to get that close to them.
 Snoozing!

That whole rock wall was full of sea lions!
We went home for a little rest and then got ready for Sophie's birthday party.  Her birthday was a while ago, but she wanted to wait to have her party when Caleb and Amelia came to visit....how sweet!
 Playing games in the park.

We even got to see some of our old friends, The Smallwoods, who are stationed there now too!
Caleb and Travis
Amelia and Grant (and Lorelei was running around somewhere).

The next morning we headed out for a hike that was just a mile down the road from their house.
It felt good to get into the trees.....and we even got rained on!!
We can't wait to get up that way again...maybe in the winter next time!
