Easter Fun

Last night we colored eggs on the back porch.
(Notice Wrigley trying to get in on the action:o)
We made a fire, made some mac and cheese and roasted up some hot dogs afterwards.
This morning Caleb came into the bathroom and asked me what all that stuff was downstairs.  I said what stuff and he said all that stuff and the shooter-thing.

I took these a couple of weeks ago, thinking that the morning of pictures never turn out as well as I'd like.

We headed to church and stayed for the Easter egg hunt afterwards.
Amelia filled her basket and Caleb brought home one!
After church, Dad gave Caleb his first lesson with the bow and arrow (or shooter-thing, if you want to call it that).

Then we were off to spend this absolutely beautiful day with a group of our friends.  After a delicious meal, we head to the soccer field for another Easter egg hunt.  What a beautiful backdrop!
This time Caleb actually filled his basket full of eggs and other goodies.
Caleb and Amelia with their friends, Emma and Sheppard (Baby Sophie and Baby Molly too little to run around yet).
It was another gorgeous day and I love that Caleb is getting old enough to actually share what this day really means for all of us.  That it's not just about the candy and eggs and presents.  That just like the "empty egg" and hollow roll (Resurrection Rolls they made at school), the tomb is also empty because Jesus lives and we have been saved!!
Happy Easter!

Sunshine Days

Friday, March 29, 2013

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here on Whidbey Island!!   Yesterday after school, we grabbed some cookies from the coffee shop and headed to the beach on base.  Just two days ago, grey whales were right at the shore feeding!  We, unfortunately, didn't see any whales this day.

Amelia doesn't like to get close to the water, so she just gives her rocks and sticks to Caleb to throw in for her.
It was 59 degrees out, which feels like it's in the high 70's, but this water was still freezing!
Amelia got a little too close and got wet.  This is her showing me the water that got her.
Today we headed to the bowling alley to join the Marines for a little bowling fun.  We have never taken our kids bowling, so we were pretty excited.  Caleb was all set.  We got our shoes, found a ball we could pick up and walked to our lane.
It was at that point, all of their excitement, turned into looking like this....
Don't ask me why, but Caleb decided he wasn't into bowling and refused to even get off the couch.
Amelia, however, surprised us and wanted to just keep doing it.

Waiting patiently for her ball to come back.

And here Caleb's resorted to taking a nap......so......Shawn decided to intervene.
He grabbed his ball and carried him to the lane, all while Caleb was screaming.
And here Caleb's trying to escape.
Maybe not the best parenting strategy, but what are you going to do?
Since bowling didn't last that long for us and Shawn was finished working for the day, we decided it was too beautiful a day to just sit at home.  We hooked up the bike trailer and headed to the beach.  Although, when we got to the beach, it looked like this.

Even though the sun was shining brightly everywhere else, it was foggy just a few miles away.  So, we played for a bit and then headed back home.
We ate grilled cheese sandwiches and pretzels on the back porch, made a fire in the chiminea, and I watched them snuggle as I made some cookies in the warmth of the house.
What a great start to the weekend!

Another bruise

She has yet another bruise.
I think she's getting bullied by another little boy in the church nursery.  Shawn and I think that maybe Caleb needs to intervene next time:o)

 This girl cracks me up!!

Drive-In

Saturday, March 23, 2013

Last night was the perfect night to head to the drive-in.  We got pillows, blankets, long underwear, coats and hats and we were ready to go.  We got there early enough that we could eat some pizza and use the car like it was meant for practicing gymnastics.  (I think Caleb climbed over the seats about a thousand times!)

I love that face Amelia's making!
 No mom, I'm not tired.
Anxiously waiting for the movie to start as we watch all the previews.  We saw The Croods, and I think it's one of my new favorite kid movies.  I would recommend going to see it.
We hope to make many more trips to the drive-in this summer!
