One Month Check Up

at Monday, January 31, 2011

Monday, January 31, 2011

This morning we ventured out for Amelia's one month check up. She now weighs 7lbs. 9oz. and is 20 3/4 inches long. This makes her between the 10th and 25th percentile for height and 5th to 10th percentile for weight. I have a feeling she's going to start moving up that chart as the weeks go along. She had to get her second Hepatitis B shot and that made her pretty mad. We're happy for a good report from the doctor and are looking forward to the busy week ahead of us.

About Me - 1 Month Old

at Saturday, January 29, 2011

Saturday, January 29, 2011

Today I am one month old.
I sleep a lot, eat alot, and poop alot.
I make a lot of grunts and squeeks when I stretch.
I have a good set of lungs and will let you know when I'm not happy.
I love to hear my brother's voice and will strain my neck to see him.
I have been sleeping in my own bed for the last week.
My neck is getting stronger and I am holding it up more and more.
I love getting a bath.
I have slept for 4.5 hours at a time the last couple of nights.
I will not stay awake if my dad is holding me.
I recognize Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star from hearing my mom sing it to Caleb for the last nine months.
My mom, dad and brother seem to be pretty smitten with me!

Camera In My Face

at Friday, January 28, 2011

Friday, January 28, 2011

Amelia's going to have to get used to a camera in her face just like Caleb has done. Although, anytime I point the camera at him now, he starts telling me "NO". And maybe next time I shouldn't use a black sheet since you can see every speck of dandruff from her hair or Wrigley's fur:o) This is just a preview of tomorrow's post...

Brother & Sister

So, here's another post about how great a big brother Caleb is to Amelia. I can't say it enough, just how much I love how concerned he is when she's crying and how excited he gets when he sees her for the first time in the morning. And even though the moment only lasts seconds, it's so cute!
We're thinking her eyes are going to be blue too:o)

Here's a little video of Caleb and Amelia.

Matching PJ's

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Not much new is going on here. We have decided that we are going to put our house on the market instead of trying to rent it. Both seem to be a daunting task in this economy and in this already saturated area, but we are praying God has a buyer lined up for us and that we won't worry about it too much....yah, right. So, we are busy rearranging, taking things off the walls, moving things to the garage that will eventually get moved to a storage unit, doing some touch up painting and early Spring cleaning. I didn't mean to make Caleb and Amelia match in their pj's, but they did and that, of course, called for some photos. Unfortnately, Caleb wouldn't give us a good smile again today.
Note to self:
Two year olds cannot run on the treadmill yet!
Dad is working tonight, so we got to enjoy him this morning. He did some of the house things on his list and then decided to get a run in before leaving for work. I was feeding Amelia so he offered to take Caleb in the garage with him. We both should have been smart enough to know that was a bad idea, but we weren't. Caleb was sitting in his chair, listening to the "yellow" (that's what he calls the radio) when dad starts running. As he gets it up to full speed, Caleb decides to try to jump on the back. Before Shawn can shut it off and jump down to grab him, his feet fly out from under him and he hits his chin on the treadmill. I am changing Amelia's diaper between sides and she pees before I get the other diaper on. Then Wrigley is at the backdoor barking to come back in and that's when I hear him scream. It always happens all at once doesn't it?! As usual, once he got in the house, got some Neosporin and a bandaid on, he was fine. I told him some girl is going to have to really love him for his heart and not his beat up face someday:o)
(Can you see the tread marks on his chin?)

Big Brother

It totally melts my heart to watch Caleb with his little sister. He still hasn't quite gotten what "gentle" means, but he wants to know where she is at all times and wants to see why she's crying and wants to kiss her all over her face. I just love it and I hope it lasts for a long time!
This was Caleb after his nap today.

This is when he realized I was taking his picture:o)

He kept making sure his blanket was covering her up too.

And I love when I get this smile out of him!!

Playing with Grandma and Popo

at Monday, January 24, 2011

Monday, January 24, 2011

Grandma and Popo head home tomorrow. Now, it's just me with two kids...all by myself during the day. I hope we are able to get out of our pajamas everyday:o) Amelia is getting bigger. She no longer can wear her preemie outfits, although some of the newborn ones are still too big for her. Caleb loves to give her kisses - all over her face. It's still pretty cute! And we think he is starting to try to fight for our attention. I'm not sure why when he's had two sets of grandparents here to give him a ton of attention. I told my mom that maybe he's had too much attention and now he just expects everyone to give it to him or do things for him. Maybe it'll help when we get back to our normal routine.......wait a minute, I don't think we have a normal routine anymore. We'll see.....
Caleb and Wrigley are getting some play time with Grandma and Popo.
As usual, Amelia is sleeping through playtime.

Unexpected Snow

at Saturday, January 22, 2011

Saturday, January 22, 2011

For those of you who get snow on a regular basis, these photos won't impress you. But for those of us in North Carolina or warmer states, this is not typical. It seems that the meteorologists never get the forecasted weather correct. So, since we were not even forecasted any snow for today, we set out for the aquarium. What usually takes us 45 minutes to get there, took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to get home.

New Clothes

at Friday, January 21, 2011

Friday, January 21, 2011

Well, we may have had a false alarm with Caleb. We went back to the doctor this morning (and we only spent 3 hours there instead of 4:o) and saw another doctor who said he thinks he just had an upper respiratory infection with a high fever. We are still waiting for the chest x-ray results that should be back on Monday. Until then, he has been back to his normal self today and we'll just wait to talk to the doctor next week.
When we got home this afternoon, we had packages waiting for us by our door. Caleb is so used to getting things in the mail for him, that he expects everything is for him. But these two were for "Lil' Missy" as we call her. She got a few really cute outfits and dresses from Great Aunt Trina and a couple onesies and birp clothes from cousins Ashley and Delaney. Man, I love Esty and I think Ashley is keeping them in business.
Tomorrow we are planning on venturing out to the aquarium to show Grandma and Popo the "fish and the alligators and the turtles" in Caleb's words.

Sick Baby...Again...

at Thursday, January 20, 2011

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Since all of our visitors and Amelia's been here, Caleb hasn't been sleeping like his usual self. He used to go to bed at 7pm and get up around 8pm. Then we got him his new bed and he started getting up (and getting in our bed) around 6:30....which was expected. But, a few weeks ago, he started getting up at 4:30 and coming into our room. Then he started venturing upstairs to sleep with Grandma and Papaw. Then he decided it would be fun to let Wrigley out of his cage at 4:00 in the morning. Well, last night he didn't get up at all. Finally, around 8am this morning, he came around the corner from his bedroom with red cheeks saying, "mommy hold you". So, I knew something was wrong. He was on fire. I took his temperature and it said 101.8, so I gave him some Tylenol and we set out to do our morning errands. We were to pick my dad up at the airport at noon, so we had to kill about three hours to kill. After picking him up, Caleb was still pretty hot, so we came home to take his temperature again. This time it said 102.5. I thought that might be wrong, so I tried another thermometer. That one said the same thing and then I called the doctor. Of course, they couldn't get him in and told us to just go to urgent care. We checked in at an urgent care center in New Bern at 1:20...........and we checked out at 5:00pm!!!! Talk about a long day. Anyway....to try to make a long story short....they did a flu test (swab up the nose), strep test (throat culture), and a CBC. The flu test and strep test were negative and the results from the CBC showed that he was sick, but they weren't sure why. His white blood count was 18,000 and normal "sick" kids at 2 years old are around 11,000 (normal is around 7,000 for healthy kids). His hemaglobin was 10.5 and normal is 12.5, which might indicate anemia. The doctor decided she wanted to give him a shot of antibiotic and do a chest x-ray. The doctor diagnosed him with an early case of (bacterial) pneumonia and we have to go back tomorrow morning for some blood work. The radiologist has to read the x-ray and give their diagnosis, but the doctor said she's been doing this for 26 years and is pretty sure that's what it is. After the medicine got in him and we got some dinner, he was acting a lot better. She said it was good we got him in today and hopefully we caught it early on. Please keep Caleb in your prayers, that he will get better soon and that Amelia won't catch it!
This was Caleb as we were running our errands.
And this was Caleb as we sat in the doctor's office for 4 hours!

We gave Amelia a real bath tonight and she loved it. What I love is the fuzzy, "duckling" hair she has now:o)

Smile

Sunday, January 16, 2011

If you were wondering how big...or little...Amelia is, just look at how small she looks on daddy's chest.

Daddy was trying to keep Amelia awake for a little while tonight and Caleb wanted to get in on the fun too.

Today I was able to capture a little smile from Amelia. I know, I know...it's just gas at this point, but it's not any less cute.

I tried to sit her up in the corner of the couch to keep her awake and she just fell back to sleep....which allowed me to get a lot of pictures of her. I chose to only post a few of them:o)
