Cooking Class

There's no doubt in my mind that Caleb (as of right now) truly does want to be a "cooker".  He loves to help when I ask, but typically, he wants to bake.  I'm good with having a baker in the family!
This morning he said, "Mom, you said we can have cooking class today!  Come on, let's do it!"  Which turned into dancing and shouting "cooking class" until I said ok.
I found a really simple recipe on Pinterest (of course), so we set off making Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bites.  No baking needed!
Amelia loved getting her hands dirty mixing all of the sticky ingredients together.

Caleb, on the other hand, wanted no part of it.  He said he just doesn't like to get dirty.  I told him that if he's going to be a cooker, he's going to have to get dirty.  So after all of the messy mixing was done, he rolled them all for us.
Amelia caught in the act of licking her hands off.
(*Note : In case you are now afraid to eat at our house, I did NOT let her put her hands back in the bowl:o)
Now they are chilling in the frig, just waiting for us to try them!

A little of this and a little of that

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

There's not much going on around here.  The days are getting warmer, which means we're outside playing a lot more.  But other than that, we haven't done anything real exciting.
Caleb knows how to turn the tv on in the morning, which allows me to, sometimes, get an extra 30 minutes of sleep!  This is how I found them the other morning when I got up;o)
We've been going to Open Gym every Friday at New Bern Gymnastics.  They absolutely love and can't wait to go back.  You can go for two hours, but we've only stayed for an hour.  This is how Caleb looks when it's time to go home.  He was literally wiping sweat from his face last Friday.
Also on Friday, Caleb got to go to his new friends house for a playdate.  The older girls came down and said, "We're here to pick up Caleb".  It was pretty cute.
He also got to stay up late that night and watch Treehouse Masters with mom while dad went to Lowe's. He loves this show (and Alaska: The Last Frontier) and will watch it all day long.
Saturday, we spend the ENTIRE day in the back yard.  Shawn fixed the barn and got it painted and now it looks brand new!

The kids hammered and scraped all day long.  We even made a huge fire to burn a ton of debris that had built up.  Probably NOT the most environmentally friendly fire, but now that's all gone too.
On Sunday, we went to a surprise 30th birthday party for one of our friends at church.  (Yah, we're the old ones!)  I wasn't sure if Caleb would be up for it, since it was at the bowling alley.
Remember our last experience with bowling…...
But, he loved it this time!  He didn't want to leave and ended up bowling on other lanes when no one else wanted to.  Every hour since then, literally,  he's asked when we're going to go bowling again.

I guess he was so proud of Amelia for bowling so well!
We don't have much else going on this week either, but I'm sure we'll find some fun things to do.

Our Weekend

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

We started out our weekend a little slow, but then found some things to do.  We went on our very first annual Capps Family Valentine's Day dinner.

We invited along Averi, Molly and Sheppard.
Caleb loved the fire and watching them make his food right in front of him!  He's trying shrimp for the first time in this picture….he said he liked it.
On Sunday, Shawn stayed home from church to do some house projects.  (Amelia painted my nails the other day and I spilled the remover all over the kitchen table, chair and a bit on the hardwood floors.  I mean seriously, in all my 36 years, have I ever done that before?!)  Floors are ok, they need to be refinished anyway and he sanded the table and chair down and they look perfect again.
We also made our 4th of July plans.  We will be camping at Camp Hatteras, on Ocracoke with a few other families.  It will probably be miserable hot, but I also think it'll be fun.  Not only will we be right on the beach, the campground has 3 pools!
Yesterday, we went on a new hike at Flanners Beach - which is actually right by our old house, so I'm not sure how we never found it before.  It was pretty nice and there were a couple of other ones there too, so we'll have to check them out another day.

I told him that if he wasn't wearing those blue sunglasses, no one would be able to see him.

Today, I took Caleb to get his kindergarten check up!
He weighs 49.2 lbs and is 45.75 tall.
(Which, on the internet, shows him at 90th percentile for weight and 93rd for height).
No shots for him today because he already had them at his four year check up.  He's getting big on us!

Happy Valentime's Day!

More Snow!

at Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

They began by saying we would only get a little snow and at the most 2-4".  Well, they were way off!  We got 7" here at the house and a few areas in New Bern got 10"!  The kids didn't want to play in it yesterday, but decided they wanted to go out today.  Shawn had to go into work for a bit today and I told them, I really didn't want to go out.  They said they didn't care.  Perfect for me!
My view from the inside of the snowy window:-)
Taking the sled down the slide.

Amelia was out for about 10 minutes and then decided she was too cold.  We are all now watching a movie, eating some popcorn and getting warm by the fire.

3 Year Check Up

at Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Today was another snow day.  Shawn got to work only to leave as soon as he arrived.  They're forecasting 2-4" and if it keeps snowing like it is now, we'll get there fast.

Despite the snow and local closures, we ventured out to get Amelia's 3 year check up.  She is growing like a weed :-)!
She now weighs 26.4 lbs and is 36 inches tall, which puts her in the 5-10th percentile for weight (much better than the 1-5% she has been in) and the 10-25th percentile in height.
Her daddy told her to start smiling because she has a modeling contract in her future….all she has to do is stand there and look pretty and all he wants is a cabin in the mountains.

Caleb's First Cuss Word

This story was too funny, not, to make the blog…..where we can cherish it forever!

Last night, Caleb, Amelia and I were eating dinner waiting for Shawn to get home so we could go to church.  Amelia spotted a flying bug on the ceiling and started screaming, "BEE!!"  I was trying to get her to stop screaming by telling her it wasn't a bee and then Caleb chimed in and said, "it's probably an asshole".  I looked over at him and said, "what did you say?"  (Because I already knew what he said, I just wanted to make sure it was what I thought I heard him say).  He said, "it's probably an asshole."  In my greatest parenting moment, I started dying laughing and asked him where he heard that word and he said, "Wild America".

Now, if you've never seen the movie Wild America, you will have no frame of reference, but it truly is one of my favorite movies.  Last year, I thought it was the perfect movie for Caleb…three brothers driving all over the county looking for wild animals.  Well, Caleb and Amelia loved it and they wanted to watch it all the time.  Having not seen this movie since I was younger, I didn't realize there was that much language in it.  So, I knew it was only a matter of time before he picked up on it.  I think they watched it the first week we were in the house (as we were unpacking), so it's been awhile since they've seen it.  The fact that he pulled that one out, at just the right time, it pretty funny.

I continued to laugh, (I seriously couldn't help it), and told him that we don't say that word.  Then he said, "just to bad people?"  I said, "no, we don't ever say that word."  He looked right at me and said, "Ok, I understand. Yes, ma'am."  (I'm not sure where the yes ma'am came from, but I think he was just adding it in so I would laugh at him more).

This kid never ceases to amazing me!
