My mom sent this super cute dress to Amelia and I couldn't wait for her to wear it!  I love it and I think she loves it too.  Thanks, Mamaw!

Caleb even sat down for a few photos.

And now you're clean-ish.

Firestation Visit

at Thursday, July 25, 2013

Thursday, July 25, 2013

This morning we got to visit the Oak Harbor Fire Department.
The first thing they did, was watch a short (very cheesy, 1980's) video about fire safety.  It's must have been good to them, because Caleb keeps telling me things he learned from it.
Next, it was out to look at the trucks.  They even got to walk through one.  Caleb doesn't look too sure about this guy...and this guy looks like Caleb might have been a little too heavy for him.
There is no way I'm letting this guy pick me up!
I eventually had to get her, because she was holding up the line.
Watching him get all of his gear on...from a safe distance, of course.
Then we went outside to shoot the fire hose.

They had a great time!  Afterwards I asked Caleb if he wanted to be a fireman now and he said, "No mom, just a cooker!" (a.k.a chef - he's been saying that for awhile now:o).

I didn't expect to have the mixed emotions I did when walking into this firehouse.  I think that being in the place, even though it's clear across the country, that my cousin, David, loved and longed to be, hit me harder than expected.  And so, I'm thinking about and missing him a little bit more today.

Learning to Ride His Bike

at Thursday, July 25, 2013

Dad thought it would be easier for Caleb to learn how to ride his bike in the grass, so the the fall wouldn't be so hard.  He did awesome on his first day of practice. You could see that he was getting tired and when he came into the house, I asked him, "Done already?"  And he said, "Yep, I wasn't listening."

 Wait, you're not holding me!!

He learned how to catch himself real quick.  I think he'll have this down in no time!
I took a lot of videos, but for some reason they will not upload to the blog, or to YouTube, or to Facebook.  I was lucky enough to email one to myself and upload it to Facebook that way, so if you want to see future videos, I guess you'll just have to look there.

Whistler Vacation Day 5 & 6

at Thursday, July 18, 2013

Thursday, July 18, 2013

Day 5.
The day before we headed home.
None of us really wanted to leave and Caleb and Amelia kept telling us they didn't want to go home.
We set out after breakfast for a leisurely hike to Green Lake again.

We stopped by Whistler Air, which is located on the lake, right next to the golf course.  Shawn inquired about a job...just kidding! We did think about taking a scenic glacier flight, but it was a little too expensive.

After that, we walked over to a beachy part of the lake and Shawn tried to make a boat out of sticks and feathers, but just ended up cutting his fingers with his knife.

Then we drove into town (that 50 minute walk, both ways, was wearing us out) and shopped for a bit.
Of course, we got ice cream!
When we got back, Caleb was still so excited about the bike trip from yesterday, that he wanted to take off his training wheels and try to ride his bike like a big kid.  That didn't last very long though. He pretty much immediately asked that they be put back on.

We soaked in the beauty of the mountains as long as we could on the drive home.  Then we decided to drive through Vancouver, just to check it out.  We got a little lost and ended up driving all over the city, which was pretty frustrating, but we also got to see some pretty cool areas.  We might just have to go there for an actual visit someday.

Whistler, is by far, one of our favorite places now!   We had an absolutely wonderful time and hope to go back soon!

Whistler Vacation Day 4

at Thursday, July 18, 2013

By day 4, the kids were pretty wore out, so Shawn rode into the village and rented the tandem part of the bike, for Caleb to ride comfortably behind him.  We hooked Amelia up to my bike and set out on the Valley Trail.  They both had a great day just riding along, taking in all the sites.

We rode to Upper Whistler Village, which happened to be more of a kid specific area.  We ate some lunch and then Caleb wanted to ride the kids luge.  He was too short to ride by himself, so Shawn rode with him.

Then we headed for Lost Lake, which supposedly gets warm in the summer and where everyone seemed to be hanging out on this very warm day.
We put our feet in the water for awhile (it was still freezing), ate some snacks, and then headed back on a gravel trail to the campsite.
This is where the picture of bear number 3 should be, but seeing as it was only about 25 yards from us and it was a bear cub, I assumed there would be a momma bear close by and didn't want to stop for a photo!  Just take our word for it.  It was a cute little, 100 lb, baby bear, meandering through the forest.

After returning back to the campsite, Caleb and Amelia were too tired to do anything else, but it was too early to just sit around and do nothing, so we headed out for a drive.
We found The Four Seasons Hotel, which didn't look too shabby.
And we found a lot of very cool houses!
We took a drive to the next town, Pemberton.  The drive there was just as beautiful and the town was quaint and cute and another possibility for settling down:o)
