The next time we think about camping...in the northwest...in the winter, we'd probably better rethink it. I'll try to make a long story short...Caleb woke up Thursday night coughing and running a little fever. Friday morning, Shawn went to work and to get the camper. Caleb was lounging on the couch, but was so excited to go camping. We decided to stick with the plan and head out after Amelia got up from her nap. We were only planning on staying at Fort Ebey for the night and catching the ferry across early Saturday morning. We got to the campground and got everything set up and were excited about our weekend full of camping fun.
We decided Amelia might be a little too little to go camping. One of us had to carry her around at all times and she is at the point where she doesn't want to be held anymore. We thought if we put down a blanket, she would just stay on it and play. That did not happen. Plus, when I had her wrapped up in her snowsuit, she couldn't crawl around on the emergency blanket. She just kept sliding around and getting really frustrated.
Mike made this cool bed for Sheppard for when they go tent camping, so we sat that up for her to play in and then she was happy.
Shawn's project for the weekend was to set up the awning with three sides to stay warm...or dry as we soon found out.
It was a nice little set up. Mike made us brisket for dinner (see it there on the fire?).
Saturday ended up being a really rainy day, so we either had to stay under the tent or stay in the camper.
And now back to Caleb...he ended up having a realy high fever all Friday night and only slept in his pull up. Saturday morning he acted like he felt better, but by lunch time, he was out for the count again. And once the rain got harder, we - meaning, me, Caleb and Amelia - decided to call it quites. No sense in getting him even more sick or getting Amelia sick too. ( The bad thing was that Mike's camper propane alarm (another rental from the base) was going off and he didn't want to chance it and went home too). Shawn stayed Saturday night by himself.
When Caleb was feeling well, he and Sheppard were playing.
We even watched a movie to get out of the cold and rain.
The sun did peak out for about five minutes before we left on Saturday. We tried to get in a short hike to the gun battery, but started getting rained on as soon as we got there.
All in all, it was fun. If the rain had stopped, we probably would have stuck it out. We will definitely rent a camper again and hopefully take that Forks camping trip in the summer...when it's not raining. I did take Caleb to urgent care today and his fever was only 101 :o) and was told there's a virus going around, which he seems to have. Tonight we put Amelia to bed with a cough and temperature of 99.8. Standard...
