Friday we set out for the Oylmpic Mountains. We would be campingFriday and Saturday night, but we wanted to go to Hurricane Ridge first. We got on the ferry and one of the best things about getting on the ferry first, is that you get to watch the view from the comforts of your car.
We took the ferry into Port Towsend and then headed for the mountains. We stopped in Port Angeles for some lunch and just happened onto this....
....we'll save the official "Forks" trip for another day (and I didn't go into the Twilight store, either:o) After some lunch we headed into the Olympic National Forest. My camera cannot capture the true beauty of this place. All we can say is, come and visit and we would love to show it to you in person!
We took a small hike and never thought there would still be snow on the trail. The elevation at Hurricane Ridge is 5,240 feet and the average snowfall is 400+ inches (which is probably why there was still snow on the top)! We have snowshoed here before and will probably try that again this winter.
Caleb and I were having fun throwing snow off the side.
I was hoping for some elk, but at least we got to see a deer:o)
On the way out of the park, we saw this church. I need to look it up online and see why it's affiliated with Anderson, IN.
Then it was off to Duckabush to camp. The lodge they are building is amazing and the land is beautiful too. Now remember, we were supposed to be camping Friday and Saturday night. We however, did not plan for a sick baby girl and a sick "with allergies" mom. The trailer itself would have been a great camper, but Amelia couldn't breathe, which meant she couldn't suck her her thumb or get comfortable. I couldn't get comfortable trying to sit up with her all night, so neither of us really slept. We decided it would be best to just pack it up Saturday afternoon and come home. We'll be sure to try it again.....someday:o)
